Lesson Content : Thursday 6th and Tuesday 11th October

I had asked you to submit some responses to questions about the language used int he opening paragraphs of chapter 2. Some responses you submitted are below. My advice is that you need to develop a more formal, critical style in your writing. There is too much evidence at present of a lack of sophistication in your discussion.

I have tried to explain the importance of being able to analyse and explore the way in which Fitzgerald uses language. This is vitally important should you choose to write about 'The Great Gatsby' in Section A of the exam.

Remember that you need to aim for band 6 of the criteria for AO2:

exploration and analysis of key aspects of language, with perceptive evaluation of how they shape meanings
We will continue to look at this as we begin to explore chapter 3 on Thursday.
